Local Indie band Amberhill's launch party for their debut EP "Songs From Summer."
Amberhill's sound is a fusion of dreamy ambient soundscapes, lush post-rock breaks and odd time rhythmic passages. Self-proclaimed gear nerds, the band uses a wide variety of effect processors to create a sound which seeks to combine the sonic layers of ambient music with the form and energy of modern alternative music.
The band started working on their EP "Songs From Summer" in May 2016 when songwriter and vocalist Joshua Lau challenged himself to write, record, mix and self-produce a 5-track EP from scratch in 250 days from his bedroom. As a graduate of Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Music and Audio Technology (DMAT), he was determined to prove that with proper recording and mixing techniques, bedroom musicians could produce near-studio quality music. The project has since grown to become a collective that includes Debbie Lim, Micah Tan, Joel Choo, Lim Yi Zheng & Koh Qing.
Upon completion of the project in January 2017, the band decided to hold back the release and attempt to promote and market the EP instead of releasing it immediately online. The band released their first single "Forest" on 3rd February and subsequently the entire EP on 30th June 2017. The band has since been featured on different media sites such as Bandwagon, JUICE SINGAPORE and Power of Pop. Their songs have also been played on local radio station LUSH 99.5.
